Project Goal
To equip the Sevan Children’s Rehabilitation Center with a sensory room to enhance therapy for children with special needs, addressing the growing demand for innovative, free, and accessible care in the Gegharkunik region.
Project Background
The Sevan Children’s Rehabilitation Center serves as a vital lifeline for children with special needs across the Gegharkunik region—drawing patients from the city of Sevan, 11 neighboring villages, and surrounding settlements. Operated under state supervision, the center employs nine skilled therapists working under the guidance of a rehabilitation doctor. All therapy services are provided free of charge through government support.
Each year, the center treats around 200 children with disabilities, most from socially vulnerable families. Yet the need far exceeds capacity—over 300 children in the region require services, and the waiting list continues to grow as more cases are identified.
A large portion of the children treated are living with autism and motor disorders. To provide the most effective care, therapists participate in continuous professional development and actively adopt innovative approaches.
One such innovation that has yet to be implemented is a sensory room—a transformative, multi-sensory environment designed to stimulate and regulate the senses. Through the strategic use of light, sound, color, touch, scent, and movement, the sensory room supports children’s emotional regulation, cognitive development, and motor skills in a calm, engaging space tailored to their unique needs.
The rehab center has a room set aside for this use — they just need our help to purchase the equipment to outfit it!
